Angiography is a diagnostic medical imaging technique that uses X-rays to visualize the inside of blood vessels. During left and right catheterization, a thin tube called a catheter is inserted into an artery or vein, usually in the leg, and threaded through to the heart or affected area. The left catheter goes into the coronary arteries supplying the heart muscle, while the right catheter goes into the pulmonary arteries leading to the lungs. Dye is then injected, making blood vessels visible on X-rays to assess blockages, damage or other conditions.
