Just had a hip replacement at Goring Hall hospital (Sussex Hip Clinic) what a great experience my surgeon James Lewis has done a fantastic job. I am walking with just a stick 24hrs after the operation! Many thanks to all the staff as well who go beyond to make everything as smooth and comfortable as possible. I had a total hip replacement on the 29th April.operation was a complete success thanks t James Lewis and everyone at goring Hall. After 19 days I was able to return to work. By the 29th May I was able to cycle to work, 5 miles each way.by the 31st I have managed to walk 10k steps. By 6 weeks post op,I'm hoping to be up on the downs on the mountain bike. Fingers crossed I can get the other hip done by James and goring Hall.... (Show more)

I only had a pre Op assessment and Covid check but all went very smoothly, efficient, on time and Sharan & Kelly were very helpful.

Mr Lewis and the team went beyond my already high expectations. Having spoken to Mr Lewis over previous months and hearing his meticulous and research driven approach to hip surgery I felt reassured and very well prepared. I was up walking the day of operation (yesterday) with very minimal pain and today I’m moving about full weight bearing. It’s incredible really, although I know there’s a journey to recovery. The care is first class here - all the nurses male and female - and the surgery is so well rehearsed and orchestrated - there’s no place I’d rather have been. I’m only 42 but I’m hoping I’ll get my life back with the movement I need and enjoy. Thank you Mr Lewis and the whole team - I’m so grateful for the pride and care you take in what you do - truly. Very nice hospital. Very clean. Nice, caring staff and Mr. James Lewis, my surgeon was very good. When I need my other hip to be done, I will go to him again ... you can't say more than THAT!

This maybe a little early in my recovery from my hip replacement as it is day 10 after the op, however I can say that Mr Lewis and his team at Goring Hall are excellent. I am walking twice during the day, about 1.3km each time and as a life long racing cyclist I have managed to get on my static bike and have increased the distance to about 8km with very easy cycling. Pain discomfort is minimal, a great deal less than when I broke the same hip back in 2004, and just using Paracetamol for pain relief. Anyone contemplating having their hip replaced I would highly recommend Mr James Lewis. Update at day 22. I have stopped taking Paracetamol since day 19. Since the day 14 post-op consultation with Mr Lewis, he has advised that I should still limit my walking to the shorter walking distances and not to increase them too soon and the cycling should be carried out as though I was riding along a flat road, no hills! I still have a small amount of discomfort around the groin region which is getting less every day. Stopped using walking stick around the house but still using it when walking outside, this is more due to the un-even pavement surfaces and for safety reasons. Every day is getting easier. Update at 8 weeks post op. Have managed my recovery by keeping active with both walking, cycling and the physio exercises that were given to me by Goring Hall, the groin discomfort is now minimal and not effecting my day to day activities and is reducing down as weeks progress. Walking is normal and have covered 100 Kilometres since the op and cycled 647 kilometres. It now feels like I have got my leg back and I am now signed off. Thank you Mr Lewis. Eric Bonner... My husband Stewart has just had a hip replacement at Goring Hall. The surgeon was Mr. James Lewis. Stewart was greatly impressed with the professionalism of the surgeon, the anaesthetist and all the staff. He was home the following day and immediately walking with the aid of a stick. I had left hip replacement posterior approach Jan 22 2022 performed by Mr. James Lewis who I can't recommend highly enough. I did a lot of research before choosing Mr. Lewis (he had tons of great reviews), I liked his approach which was to inform me of all that would go on in very simple to understand terms, he had a good bedside manner, was friendly with good sense of humor too, He answered post op all my questions very promptly and put me at ease with any concerns I had. The first week was tough after discharge due to painful muscles/tendons, swelling/bruising but that quickly improved after 4 to 5 days and from then on my exercises were a lot easier to do and at the 2 week period I was walking so much better with very little pain, most of indoor walking with only an occasional one stick and outdoors just one stick, every day I feel stronger and stronger and everything is improving, I know by end of week 3/4 I will be even further along (Im at day 17 currently) and feel very confident and happy that I have my quality of life back after suffering for 6 years with this. Also I drove on Day 15.!! The only negative I have, if you can call it that, maybe it's more a vanity thing but I had hoped for a 3 to 4 inch scar but mine was a lot longer than that but apart from that 100% happy with Mr. Lewis and his skill in minimally invasive surgery. If you are looking for hip replacement, look no further than Mr James Lewis, he "Aces " it, you will not be disappointed. Also a big huge thank you to all the nursing staff at Goring Hall who took such great care of me, from the anaesthetist,to my main nurse Maila who was superb, all the other day and night nurses, physio Stephen and the sweet ladies who bought me my meals, I'm sorry if I don't remember all your names but Goring Hall knows who took care of me and I hope will pass on my thanks.... Mr Lewis performed a total hip replacement on me 4 weeks ago. From the moment I discovered that I needed a THR, there was only one surgeon that I wanted to perform this surgery. Mr Lewis gave me all the information prior to surgery so that I was fully informed and knew what to expect. The care that I received from Mr Lewis and all of the clinical team at Goring Hall was second to none. My recovery has been incredible and I'm so grateful to Mr Lewis for his skills, care and compassion. Looking forward to riding my horse and walking my dogs again! Barry King room 28 Mr James Lewis and his team just amazing. After hip surgery i was up briefly on my feet after 3 hours, walking next day on one stick and even managed the stairs. i cant thank every one enough, theatre staff, nursing staff, cleaning staff, porters, and kitchen staff for there excellent food. i would highly recommend this clinic to anyone. Mr Lewis and his theatre team through to the physio and all the hospital staff made what could have been a daunting experience a successful and stress free hip replacement. Hip replacement done on 21st of April,so only 2 days ago,the pain I went in with has now gone,feels like an aching leg now,mr Lewis and his wonderful team are true magicians 🎩,the whole process from addmiton to Steve the physio saying he was happy for me to leave,cannot recomed goring hall and its staff enough,not enough stars at the top of the page,thank you all,hopefully see you all again August time🤞🤞🤞.for the next one... I had a hip replacement on the 2nd June, every body at the hospital were very polite,helpful,and couldn't do enough for me ,operated by Mr Lewis excellent thanks to you and your staff ist class,very impressed
