Mixed reviews. I attended for a CT coronary angiogram and I had an excellent experience, the scan was on time at 9.30am, the radiographer and radiologist were lovely and I felt I was in safe hands. They were very caring and spoke me through everything that was going on. However; when I attended for my appointment at 7.30pm, my appointment ran 25 minutes behind and was told that the hospital shut at 8pm which upset me. The receptionist was very reassuring and apologised for this, and I do understand that health care is very busy however I think my appointment should have been rescheduled as the receptionist then had to stay late.... Really happy with the experience I had here for my ACL reconstruction. Everyone was so friendly, and made me feel at ease. In particular my surgeon Angus was superb and also the anaesthetist team to put me to sleep were amazing and tried to make things light hearted to keep me calm. As a bonus the food was superb too!... Recently had my hernia surgery here and the whole experience from start to finish was perfect. Super attentive staff and very professional from receptionist to the surgeon. Thanks again.

Terrible service. So slow. They never pick up the phone?

Recently had surgery here and had a wonderful experience. The receptionist calmed my nerves and took me to my ward, explaining how things work. The nurses showed such incredible kindness pre- and post- op (Beth, Donna, Claire, Litim Victoria and others) and went out of their way to ensure I felt calm, comfortable and in no pain...and kindly put up with me having the window wide open in the wintry cold (post op sweats) . Genuinely caring and good for a chat and a laugh to lighten the situation. Knowledgeable and reassuring! Very helpful pharmacist Gareth took me through my meds with ease. Impeccably calming resident Doctor Christopher, and faultless surgeon Mr Quine all made for a easy, clean, professional yet lighthearted experience. So incredibly grateful to all at Spire who made an uncomfortable situation (operation) much easier to go through.... (Show more)

I phoned today and explained I needed local knowledge of travelling to and from the Spire as I'm juggling appointments for my own health concerns and attending visiting hours for a family member in my local ICU. The attitude on the phone, having explained my situation to them, was disgusting. I was made to feel a nuisance and was told in a cold manner that they can't predict the traffic and it's up to me what's more important. I think the reception staff would be better off moving to the debt collecting team and kept away from people who need help.... (Show more)

Been in here for various different proceedures half a dozen times over last few years and can’t fault them in any capacity, professional, friendly and great facilities. Sometime there is await to see a particular consultant but this isn’t to do with spire just consultants diary as probably also working for NHS... (Show more)

Being in a hospital/unwell can make one feel particularly vulnerable, but my experience at the Spire Cardiff Hospital was truly exceptional and my expectations were honestly surpassed. The room had a bit of a nice hotel vibe to it and the staff (receptionists, admin, kitchen, ward, pharmacists and theatre) were all very kind, polite and caring. They ensured that I had a lovely stay from beginning to end. My surgeon was Mr Stuart Quine and from my first consultation with him to the actual operation he was excellent. He put my mind at ease and impeccably managed my expectations. I had zero fears going into the operating room knowing that he was at the helm. The ward staff were equally amazing especially nurse Tracey Courtman and healthcare assistant Tony Arnold. I could not speak more highly of them. They do their jobs with love. I’m forever grateful for the care this team of wonderful people gave me, and in a world where people often tend to highlight negativity, it’s important to acknowledge and recognize all that is good. Thank you, team Spire!... (Show more)

I had really lovely care from all the staff I came across at Spire Cardiff last week. My room was spotlessly clean and comfortable. I would like to give a special mention to my nurse, Jade who made sure I was comfortable and happy from start to finish and also to Hazel in catering who made sure I had gluten free food for my stay.... My experience this time was overwhelmingly negative. I really feel they just worked me to charge Bupa the maximum they could... They even sent me a bill for £810 for an MRI that arrived when I came round from surgery when they had the Bupa membership and authorisation numbers on the form! Recommend you try to avoid and fingers crossed I don't need surgery or treatment there. At least with the NHS you can get through on the phone eventually and get your blood results!!... (Show more)

Have found the care here very hit and miss, mostly recently more miss than hit. Most recent consult was with an orthopaedic consultant and he recommended 3 medications and a procedure but when I asked about risks said that there are risks with everything, brushed aside my concerns and said its just like taking paracetamol. The 3 drugs in question are a antidepressant and anti epileptics and only by good fortune of speaking to a pharmacist who said i'd need to be managed on and off those drugs as they are very powerful, have I avoided a potential dependency or worse - they are not even compatible with my existing meds. When I queried it with the Spire office, they said it was up to my GP to review my meds. My NHS GP who had thus far not been involved. All very amateurish IMO. Spire is handy for getting an scan or whatnot done, but you're seeing the same consultants in the NHS and cross specialty involvement is more forthcoming, so i'd not trust Spire with anything too important. Several times at this hospital i've had a consultant say "thats not my area" and that's it, you're on your own. Unfortunately this place is the only one my insurance supports in my area otherwise i'd go elsewhere.... (Show more)

From start to finish every member of staff was polite and friendly and put me at ease. The building was lovely and clean and had a comfort to it that you do not experience in any other hospital. My surgeon (Andrew James) was absolutely amazing. He was very friendly and instantly put me at ease. Explained everything very clearly. The assistant Nurse was amazing too. I'm soo happy with the whole experience and honestly can not think of anything negative during my experience here. A massive thank you 😊... (Show more)

From start to finish the care I received was outstanding and I can’t thank the spire Cardiff enough. My initial consultation and tests were organised my Mr Vivek Goel and subsequent surgery performed by Mr Nagapann Kumar. The anaesthetist and his team also went above and beyond, I was very nervous having never had surgery or a general anaesthetic before but by the time I was waking to theatre I was completely at ease. The after care from the nurses was fantastic, nothing was too much trouble for them. The rooms were basic but clean and comfortable. I would definitely return should I need to... (Show more)

Private medical care is a total scam as far as I’m concerned, Spire is useless after consultation & MRI which my private medical care covered there was no correspondence from Spire they only seem to care about the money rather than the patient, horrible experience with Spire & I will be changing private care with another hospital from now on!... This year, I have been treated at The Spire Cardiff for severe varicose veins in both legs. From my first appointment last September, to my most recent procedure in April, my surgeon ( Mr Mike Lewis) has been incredible. His clear approach, technical expertise and compassion have remained constant throughout my entire experience at Glamorgan House so far. During my first operation, Mr Lewis was careful to explain everything in steps and I had every confidence the procedure would go well ( it did!). The whole team at Spire Cardiff have also been unfailingly supportive; often going above and beyond the call of duty to assist at every point of my treatment journey. For overnight stay requirements, the rooms are spotlessly clean and well maintained. I would highly recommend this hospital to anyone requiring private health care.... (Show more)
