Beautiful
My son and I were there at the end of July. We just came in... and left an hour later... we met a good companion - the caretaker... I regret that I forgot the name... the history of the temple is not simple.. there are many interesting details in the architecture (look at the handle on the front door!).. the temple is slowly being restored after the fire... so when you visit, you can help at least a little... indeed, the room is quiet, calm, harmony, I would even say...... Very pleasant atmosphere, beautiful, without pathos, friendly parishioners
Beautiful! It’s definitely worth a look to get an idea of the Catholic churches!
Wonderful place. I've been there 2 times and will go again. A very bright and calm place. The energy here is amazing. I was at the service and am still impressed. And if there is no service, you can sit in silence and think about life
A cozy place where we found ourselves to listen to the organ. It was a concert. The organ is electronic, it is not visible at all, like the performer. In the cold weather we didn’t even take off our mittens and were frozen + cold wooden benches 👍 …
Very beautiful👍 …
The Basilica of St. Catherine is a Catholic church located on Nevsky Prospekt in the historical center of St. Petersburg. The building was designed in the Baroque style, but while the construction process was underway, it was completed in the Classicist style. This is perhaps the largest cathedral in Russia. Before the revolution, it had about 30,000 parishioners. This is approximately equal to the number of students at St. Petersburg State University. Currently the parish has approximately 1,500 parishioners. Over the long years of its existence, it has undergone devastating fires and qualitative changes. At first it was a community that met in the house of the architect Trezzini. Later, on land donated by the royal gardener, in the Greek settlement, a wooden temple was built. In 1710 the temple already existed. After the fire in 1737, Empress Anna Ioanovna signed a decree on September 13, 1738 on the construction of the church. In the first half of the 1740s, the first building was built (Nevsky Prospekt, 34). Divine services were held there on the ground floor while funds were being collected for the construction of the Cathedral. Later, in 1763, the cornerstone was laid in the presence of a representative of the imperial court and the construction of a stone temple began on Bolshaya Perspektivnaya Road, now Nevsky Prospekt at 32-34. In 1783, the temple was completed and illuminated in honor of the martyr Catherine of Alexandria. As a result, the following people took part in managing the affairs of the church: chaplains, then Franciscans, then Jesuits. In 1815 the Dominicans. And closer to our time - parish priests. The parishioners included respected people - Jean O Guste Mont Ferrand, A.S. Pushkin, O. De-Balzac, A. Dumas, F. Liszt and others. Famous people in history were buried and buried - the Polish king, Stanislav August Poniatowski, General Jean Victor Moreau. Thus, the appearance of the modern Catholic church was historically formed, which in 2013 was awarded the title of minor basilica by the Pope. Today it is a functioning parish of the Roman Catholic Church. Masses are held in four languages: Russian, Polish, Spanish, English. There is a parochial school in the church for 100 students. There is a preschool education center. The cultural center of the Basilica of St. Catherine of Alexandria operates on the basis of the parish. Organ evenings of classical music and creative meetings are held.... (Show more)
I wanted to buy a candle, but 50 kopecks were missing. Didn't sell.
It's nice to take a break from the bustle of Nevsky Prospekt. And think about the eternal. Sometimes I come here to stop the internal dialogue and rethink where to move next in all respects.
Basilica of St. Catherine of Alexandria (1738-1783). Of course, you need to read the history of this famous temple; there are many historical figures and events associated with it. In 1984, a fire almost completely destroyed the remains of the temple's decoration. And in memory of this, one of the altars is not being restored. But these bulky benches are so inconvenient. Return the chairs, they looked so beautiful. Visited on Weekday Wait time No wait Reservation recommended No... (Show more)
A stunning place of worship. Free admission. Clean, quiet, calm. At the entrance there is a stand with interesting information about the basilica. There is no rich decoration, everything is modest, but there is such peace.... you just want to sit and think about the eternal. A very nice woman in the church shop.
