There is a song by Sabina that defines this. It's called "Like a Toothache." My personal experience: Dentists never scared me. I never understood it. Until one day in Seville they gave me anesthesia very quickly. Hurts. Since then he was a scalded cat. But on Thursday of last week I broke a tooth and I came urgently to this clinic. I didn't have to wait for anything (they really treat emergencies 😲) and most importantly, after warning the doctor who treated me of my fear, he gave me the anesthesia with a gentleness and professionalism like I had never known (and I wear bull cloth in many arenas) . The extraction was...that; Sabina's song. I went out with it on my head and it didn't go away for days. What a curious confusion we sometimes have with pain and pleasure when they are irreconcilable. Pain is the urgency that the body gives us to solve something that is damaging it. Pleasure is the reward he gives us for doing what he wants. Since I was in the clinic I am aware (I was not before) that it is preferable to relieve pain than to experience great pleasure. Unfortunately now I fear that it can only get worse because I don't think the experience can be improved in any way. We'll see. There are times (rare) that good things don't get worse....
