Mr Oliver Harley FRCSEd(Plast)
Oliver Harley MBBS, BSc, MBA, FRCSEd(Plastic Surgery) Oliver Harley is a fully qualified, GMC registered specialist Plastic Surgeon. He is also a member of The British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS), and The British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH). Mr Harley specialises both in cosmetic surgery and hand surgery. After qualifying in medicine in 1998 at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals in London he has gained extensive experience in the field of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery since 2002. Mr Harley completed his higher surgical training at St Thomas’ Hospital (London), St Georges Hospital (London) and Queen Victoria Hospital (East Grinstead) and was awarded FRCS (Plastic Surgery) in 2009. He further developed his expertise by undertaking specialist training fellowships in Cosmetic Surgery (at McIndoe Surgical Centre, East Grinstead 2010) and in Hand and Wrist Surgery (at Wrightington Hospital, Lancashire and Erasmus MC University Hospital, Rotterdam 2011-2012). He has worked as an NHS consultant in plastic surgery in Plymouth, the John Radcliffe and the Nuffield Orthopaedic Hospitals in Oxford, and at the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead. His passion and interest in Plastic Surgery has led Mr. Harley to regularly organise and partake in teaching for the Royal College of Surgeons Plastic, Reconstuctive and Aesthetic course series. Involvement in clinical research, winning conference prizes for research projects in abdominoplasty and in finger joint replacements, has provided him with a deeper understanding of specialist topics. Opting to have Plastic Surgery is a significant decision for people and Mr Harley adopts a patient focused approach to his practice: “Providing a clear, honest and balanced opinion in a supportive environment is the key to enabling patients to make the best choices about their treatment.”
Mr Harley has performed a dupuytren's procedure on my right little finger in November 2022, its now March 2023 and I'm going back to play golf. A good job well done.
Mr Harley Performed a trapeziectomy on my right thumb just about a year ago to help relieve the Osteo Arthritis in my hand. It is an operation that can take time to recover from but I am really pleased in the outcome of the operation as it has given me more freedom and use of my hand. I do have some other evidence of arthritis in some right hand joints. I have very similar problems in my left hand and I am more than happy for them to be treated when necessary.... (Show more)
I had severe Dupuytrens Contracture on my right hand, so I was very pleased to find Mr Oliver Harley who said he would be able to help me. He explained the type of surgery I would be having, so I knew what to expect and felt reassured. Post surgery I am extremely happy with the results after years of having this condition which affected my daily life and made me feel self conscious. I now feel I have my hand back to normal. I would highly recommend Mr Harley if you suffer with this disease or have any problem with your hands.... (Show more)
Mr Harley has performed carpal tunnel surgery on both my left and right hand over the past two years. The surgery was very well explained and took a matter of minutes to complete. I felt instant relief and recovered very quickly with no post operation issues. The scaring is minimal and the first one is nearly invisible 18 months down the line. I honestly can not recommend him enough.... (Show more)
Very very pleased with how the operation on my hand went and the follow up after the operation was first class thank u
I was very happy with Mr Oliver Harley's operation on my left hand for carpal tunnel syndrome and the subsequent support.
Mr Harley operated on my left ring finger that had severe contracture . Following surgery and a course of specialist physiotherapy I have a fully functioning left hand. A much better outcome than even expected - Thank you a great job.
Mr Harley operated on my right hand contracture in May and from start to finish he and his team were professional and caring. The operation went well and having followed all I was advised my hand is once again a useful part of me, enabling me to once again undertake all previous tasks and hobbies. Thank you, I couldn't have been cared for by a better surgeon and wonderful team.... (Show more)
I would like to thank Dr Harley for the successful removal of a ganglion I had on my hand. It was applying pressure near my nerves and had caused me pain and tingling on and off for years and had become exacerbated with work at the time. When it came to discussing removal, I was worried about the placement of it and could only hope that even if I didn't get back full functionality of my hand (which I hadn't had for years anyway at that point) that it would at least feel better and have less flare ups. Thankfully, I had Dr Harley. He not only made me feel reassured throughout the process but he was very professional, honest and personable right up to moments before the surgery. He and his team ensured that the removal went smoothly and the ganglion has now been gone for 6 months and I haven't experienced the same numbness or tingling that used to travel across my whole lower arm to the tips of my fingers. The scar is so small and neat that I don't feel conscious of it at all. Truly remarkable change.... (Show more)
Very pleased to have regained functionality in my left hand after Oliver Harley operated to allow straightening of the little finger (Dupuytrens). I am now able to play musical instruments again! Huge thanks to Mr Harley and the team at East Grinstead, the care and attention has been excellent.
Last year I started a weight loss journey. I managed to loose 5 stone in 9 months, which left me with loose and sagging skin on my breasts and stomach. I have been saving for surgery for the last 8 years, fully researching everything I needed to know. Once I hit my goal weight, I started looking for surgeons to finish my weight loss journey. I Sade ten different surgeons over the space of a few months, and i didn’t feel safe or understood by them, until I met mr Harley and his team. Straight away his p.a jennie was quick to respond, efficient, friendly and worked hard to get me seen quickly as I was at the point of giving up after spending so much on consultations and getting no further forward. Mr harley called me one evening after he had finished work and spent a good hour on the phone, discussing the surgery with me, my options etc.. a few days later I decided to have a consultation and went to visit him at the mkindoe centre in east grinstead. He was warm and welcoming and I knew straight away he was the surgeon I had been searching for. I suffer with anxiety and panic disorder, and instantly mr harley put my nerves at ease and I knew I was in safe hands. He told me what his professional opinion was, and although I wasn’t keen on what he was saying, I knew he was saying everything for the right reasons. I decided to book my surgery that day for 6 weeks time. As I was waiting for my surgery date to approach, my nerves grew even more, and I had several doubts along the way which almost made me cancel. I loved that they don’t ask you to pay any money until the week before the surgery, so you feel free to make a decision and not tied into it because you will loose money. I almost cancelled 3 times as I was sure I wanted implants, and mr harley explained that I would be better without implants to start and see what I think, because he thinks he can get the look that I want and save me a lot of money doing it too. A few days before the surgery I had another wobble, me harley called me and reassured me everything would be ok, I decided to go for it and at that point on I was so excited for my surgery. On the day of surgery, I arrived around 7am, was taken to my room for pre op checks. Mr harley came in, took photos, drew me up ready for surgery and I met my anasthetic doctor who was also lovely. I was so calm and chilled, and was ready for this next journey. The nurse came in told me they were ready and that was it. The whole process was so quick from start to finish, I didn’t even have a chance to text my husband to say I was going down. I had a last second wobble where emotions hit me, and I burst into tears and the nurses were so lovely. They gave me a cuddle and told me not to worry. The next thing I know I’m waking up, feeling very comfortable and in very very minor discomfort. The stay in the hospital was fantastic, very clean and the food is delicious. Staff are amazing and made sure I was checked on very regularly. Later that evening, mr harley came to check up on me and said he would be back in the morning. I had a good night - not the best sleep to be expected, but i was so happy the pain was minimal, but I was looking forward to going home. The next morning, the nurses came in, helped me wash in the shower and I was discharged. A few days passed and I experienced a few minor reactions to the surgery. Nothing that mr harley caused - I had an allergic reaction to the dressings which made my skin very sore, and then I had some excess swelling and fluid leaking. I had to go back a few times and was seen by dr Tom who was also fantastic - never felt like I was being a nuisance or causing any hassle to them. The service from both mr harley and all his team are fantastic. I love that mr harley is honest, he wants the best for his patients and takes pride in his work. I am now almost 6 months post op and he has changed my life. I’ve never felt so happy, it’s not just been a physical change for me, but a huge emotional and mental journey too. I will be forever greatful to mr harley for giving me my life back!... (Show more)
Brilliant all round. 100% satisfied with the outcome and the experience.
I cannot praise Dr. Harley enough for the exceptional care and support he provided during my post carpal tunnel surgery recovery. His expertise and genuine concern for my well-being were truly remarkable. From the moment I stepped into his office, I felt welcomed and at ease. Dr. Harley took the time to listen attentively to my concerns and thoroughly explained the healing process. His in-depth knowledge and ability to answer all my questions left me with no doubt that I was in capable hands. Throughout my recovery journey, Dr. Harley went above and beyond to ensure my comfort and progress. He devised a personalised pain management plan (steroids injections) that significantly alleviated my discomfort, and his continuous follow-ups showed his dedication to my recovery. Beyond his medical skills, Dr. Harley displayed genuine empathy and understanding, making me feel valued as a patient and not just a case. His encouragement and positive attitude motivated me to stay focused on my healing and regain my strength. Thanks to Dr. Harley's expertise and unwavering support, I am now on the path to a full recovery, and the post-surgery pain has subsided significantly. I highly recommend Dr. Harley to anyone in need of exceptional care and a compassionate healing partner. Thank you, Dr. Harley and the team for my recovery journey.... (Show more)
I had exploratory surgery carried out on my Hand by Mr Harley in June 2023 after a previous ganglion removal by another surgeon at a different hospital had left me with limited mobility to my left index finger, along with pain. Mr Harley was attentive, and listened to all my concerns, and agreed to have a look to see if he could ease things for me. Thankfully, after the operation, I regained movement back to the finger, and had no more pain. The whole operative team at The McIndoe Centre in East Grinstead were caring and put me at ease. I thoroughly recommend Mr Harley.... (Show more)
Very pleasant, explained everything clearly, I’ve held off posting a review as I have a small outstanding issue to be sorted. I would definitely recommend Mr Harley, and am contemplating using him again ☺️
Very friendly surgeon, operation went perfectly, fingers are now straight again. Thanks dr
I have used Oliver Harley on two separate occasions and have been very pleased with the results. His stitching is particularly good resulting in near on invisible scars.
As a teenager I decided to stupidly have a lip piercing I started to really regret but having it for over 10 years left a massive hole that wouldn’t Close on its own so I saw the lovely dr Harley, you would never be able to tell I ever had anything there, he’s great!
Having had severe arthritis in both hands for several years and tried everything to alleviate pain, trapeziectomy was the only option left. I had been putting off the decision, afraid that this too would not work. I'm so grateful to Mr Harley for his patience and kindness, both before the operation and after, and for his amazing surgical skills. I can honestly say that the operation at the McIndoe was a pleasurable experience, thanks to the kindness and professionalism of the whole team. 15 weeks later I'm so pleased with the outcome that I have decided to proceed with a trapeziectomy on my right hand. It's important to follow all the advice given, to attend hand therapy sessions (also excellent) and to be patient. I consider myself extremely fortunate to be one of Mr Harley's patients - thank you so much - and have no hesitation in recommending him to others.... (Show more)
I saw Mr Harley originally for a consultation for a breast reduction. I felt very comfortable and at ease. He answered all my questions confidently and showed me many examples of before and after photos of his work. He managed my expectations and was honest about anything that may not be perfect due to body shape size etc. I chose to go ahead. I was very lucky that the process from consultation to procedure was 2 months. I had zero anxiety about the procedure. I always knew I could email or call regarding any questions or worries. I am 100% happy. The results are not only aesthetically pleasing but more practical for my everyday life and I just feel so much happier. Could not recommend enough. Thank you Oliver 😃... (Show more)
