Go anywhere else but here! This would be a 0 star if possible. In August 2017 I decided I wanted to be a hair dresser. After doing some research (obviously I didn’t look hard enough) I decided to go to Eveline Charles Academy. At first (before classes started) they seemed really great. My first day was on August 16th. My entire first week of school, we did not learn a thing. Despite the fact that there was only myself and two other girls in my class, they didn’t have our emails set up for us so we were unable to do any of the course work. This resulted in us being sent home all three of these days with them telling us “dont worry you won’t be docked any hours for these days”. The “education” I received here was beyond inadequate and I don’t understand how this place continues to do business. The instructors are borderline abusive and always ragged on the students for their appearance. The instructors made it obvious that they didn’t want to be there and would send us out on the floor with no knowledge and would expect us to know their processes for how to do a blow dry etc. Only one of the instructors I had while I was there was experienced, the rest were stylists that had essentially just graduated from hair school themselves. The other students that were there would continuously speak negatively about the course work, instructors and the school itself. It was a very negative environment. Mid September 2017, I decided that due to the inadequate education I was receiving, I was no longer going to attend classes there. I spoke to the admissions coordinator and was told that in order to get a refund, I had to be less than a certain percentage done the course and unfortunately I was .1-.2% above that amount. So, I am now in the process of repaying my student loan for $10,000 for a nonexistent education and the worst experience of my life. But whatever, it is what it is. At that time, the admissions coordinator told me that I also owed eveline charles $1000 and tried to get me to sign something. I refused to sign and advised her that I would not be paying this amount. I did not hear from this admissions coordinator again. Three months ago, I contacted her to get a form that the government was requesting from me. At this time, she made no mention of me owing any money. Today’, I got a letter in the mail saying that I owe them this money and they have tried to contact me (which is false. My phone number and email address have not changed and I have never once received any kind of communication from them in regards to this) and if I don’t pay Immediately, they will be sending it to collections. All I can say, is don’t make my mistake. Don’t attend this school. There are lots of other places in Calgary you can go where you will receive a much better education.... (Show more)
I've been going to EC Academy for haircuts for years and have always been happy with the service and affordability. I called in to book an appointment a few days ago and learned that the location at The Core has closed (their lease ended at the end of Jan 2019) and they are temporarily setup at the Market Mall EC inside the Bay until their last student graduates. After that, the program is kaput. Very disappointing. I always thought they were doing pretty well at their downtown location.... (Show more)
Amazing experience. Very professional. My hair looked amazing! Sage and Sam were amazing. Very personable and caring. I loved it!
Do not go to eveline charles they are unorganized and unprofessional. I signed up for a lash course in November - 3 months later they still have not given me my certificate. Anytime I email them they either ignore me or refer me to someone else. I offered to pick up my certificate twice. One time they completely ignored my offer the second time I emailed they still haven't responded. Update: When I emailed the school again one of the employees responses was that My email was ignored about me picking up the certificate from the academy because apparently the certificate was mailed out the day before. I would have liked a response at the very least rather than being left in the dark. As if yet, I have not received the supposed certificate The course itself: My instructor was unreachable as soon as the course ended. We were supposed to receive our manual through email- 3 months later still haven't gotten it. I emailed the instructor a few times and there was no response whatsoever. The course itself was not informative. The instructor just read off a book and that was all. I learned more through youtube then through this course. The course said it would cover these but we did not even brush up on it: -Cost of Service, Marketing, Tips -Troubleshooting -Taping to show how to Layer Lashes -Insurance For the cost and hassle they will give you its not worth it. The academy does not care. Update: It took eveline charles academy a year to even inquire into the issues I faced with this school. At that point why even bother because they are just trying to save face because of the bad review. I feel like my money should be refunded from this terrible school that I got nothing out of.... Great haircut. Positive environment. I really enjoyed watching the student/teacher interaction. Again, AMAZING, haircut! I never go anywhere else anymore.
I always love coming here to have my hair done, with long hair salons can be costly and I dont mind at all coming to the students. The teachers make sure the student understands what is being done and why, I've always left happy! Sad to hear they are closing this location but happy to know I can still book with students at market mall. What normally would cost me $400 only costs $100... (Show more)
I arrived 15 minutes late for my appointment as I had trouble finding parking. I wasn't called in for another 15 minutes which caused a time issue as I needed to be at work later that afternoon. The girl who cut my hair was very timid and nervous (forgiveable) but managed to do a reasonable job. When it was time for the Educator to check, she had disappeared. Customer service could use an upgrade.... (Show more)
I don't recommend this academy to study there at all. The teachers are very bad they don't have any knowledge at all on the theory. Is a teacher there that she is suppose to be the lead esthetician Angela bat she doesn't even know the theory of the slides. All she does is to read the screen and improvise .No knowledge at all! As well she talks very bad about the students and other teachers.Another thing that I notice is that the school is extremely disorganize on every-way. The place is not clean at all looks good from the outside bat they are very dirty in the school. As soon as I so all these problems I decide not to take my aesthetics training there. Really believe is not a good school don't get fulled just because of the look of the place. The ambient feels not welcoming at all everybody talks bad about everybody. Not a friendly place really boring. As well don't believe the good reviews a lot of them are from the teachers from this academy.... (Show more)
I had my hair washed and blow dry. As I had a special event I wanted to add a few curls. The stylist did an amazing job with the curls on my hair. I received a lot of compliments. Thank you.
I'm not quite sure where to begin! Over all, I am disappointed with the quality of education and amount of help I received. Basic things like hair gel and condioner we're a scarcity which when you are a student are a necessity! Not to mention( twice ) my tools that had been paid for MONTHS in advanced arrived five hours after my first exam that I needed them for. The school really tries to bully you into their way of thinking and creates ridiculous rules for the most simple of things ex) over half the school year we weren't allowed to wear our hair up or any accessories in our hair. When I asked why they told me it was so they could control us better. ... excuse me?! Control me? I paid my tuition and I respected the rules. What else is there to control? Instructors are more interested in talking to each other and examining your clothes than helping you. Your education is based on how much you're liked by the staff. Their internal structure is so bad that the only instructors that did respect students quit because upper management was not respecting them, which students watched first hand. One instructor actually made students feel good about their work but management fired her. Thats a very common theme actually! During my 11 months I watched every instructor that respected the students get fired. Turn over was crazy there! Some students we're allowed to re write tests and myself was not. A little back story is I had missed it to go to my grandmother's funeral. As a result I failed the module which was worth 5% of my over all grade, and I had graduated 5% below honors.... Very unprofessional and uncompassionate of them. Head office and most staff care very little about your needs, well being, or respecting you. They tried to force me into taking another students client during my lunch break, when I had already worked through my other breaks and had not eaten since 8:00am. Lunch is at 1:00pm. Many times I brought issues to Carmen and nothing was done about them. The students had to come together for months about one issue, which only got resloved months and months after the fact. Upper managent works very hard to spin any problem you come to them with like you're the one who is causing the problems. I am NOT an employee. I am a PAYING CUSTOMER. None of the staff seems happy so I assume upper management treats employees like this as well and some of them have confirmed this. Eveline Charles is not the place to go if you are looking for genuine and respectful people to teach you. Yes, learning new skills is uncomfortable but respect is pretty basic which the entire establishment is lacking I would not recommend this establishment or brand to anyone on the principals of how they treat their staff, paying customers and students. If you go here I recommend reading up on labor and PVT board regulations.... (Show more)
My cut and blow dry was amazing!!!! Better of my last hair stylist... definately I would come back again!
The instructor could not care less what you came in asking for, the student didnt know the first thing about hair even though she’s supposedly finishing in two months (I asked for a blowout and she takes out the straightener??? And when I say no I want more volume she attempts to measily curl parts of the hair) Extremely, unbelievably incompetent. Please advise your teachers to be less cold and have less of an attitude. Also maybe go over how a trim doesn’t mean chop LITERALLY half of the customers hair off. They also had the nerve to push their products not once, not twice, but three times. Not to mention it wasn’t cheap, ~$100.... (Show more)
The things I've experienced as a student at this school I'm surprised they are still in business. An instructor bleached another students hair 3x in one sitting. (the student had psoriasis) because she came to school with a non traditional hair color. One girl got her pants ripped by an instructor because she wore yoga pants to school. They made us watch movies 80% of the time that had nothing to do with learning how to do hair. Total circus. Do not support this company.... (Show more)
They know what they do, make sure to finish on time and do the job properly. But due to the money matter they refuse for certain stuff. Like putting enough bleach on longer and thicker hairs and instead do something else "they" would prefer to do. And for that simply they can tell the customer to pay more which I'd be happy to. So after going on two, 4 hour sessions they still refused to do the color I wanted. I had long dark brown roots on top of a mix of coppery and blond highlights. I asked them to make 90% my hair blond and get rid of coppery ends but because second time was a different instructor and had different "opinion", they totally changed the plan and after all my explanation and shown photos, they ended up doing 20% highlights and matched the rest with my coppery ends (which I hated to keep) 😐😐😐 and since my ends are obviously faded blond, my hair has different color on top and bottom now and I have to find a stylist to get rid of all of them and re-bleach all my hair again 😔 so for my case wasted money not saving at all.... This is a great place to get your hair coloured for a fraction of the price. You do, however, need to know exactly what you want. Great job EC!
Don't support this academy Eveline herself is just a joke they are setting students up for faliure
It was great
Students are kind and friendly. Staff seem really curt. I went for balayage and colour (purple hidden underneath). The purple wasn't left on long enough and the balayage was a disaster. There was a noticeable pattern on my hair. The student noticed and mentioned something discreetly to the instructor. She said no one would notice and rather than pointing it out to me and allowing me to decide, the instruction "hid" it with curls. (The student had offered to show me how to curl it before). I was very upset about this behaviour of the instructor. The salon booked me a corrective session when I went back and complained. The second student attempted to fix it. It still looks funny, but the purple is more even and the patter in the balayage is less noticeable. I think this is a good place for learning and the price is great. If you have an event or something special you really want to look amazing for, I would suggest trying the salon rather than the academy.... (Show more)
Teacher knows what she's ( amazing and makes me feel very comfortable) doing the students are nonjudgmental very kind and I love the work this woman has done for me. I've received a pedicure and waxing service and the girl has done an excellent job and I am continuing to come here as a model. :)
