Following breast reconstruction, I experienced Doctor Vertriest as a warm, honest and discreet man, with his heart in the right place. I had had a mastectomy about one year before, followed by chemotherapy and then radiotherapy. Immediately after the treatment I doubted whether I wanted a breast reconstruction. Dr Vertriest fully understood this and at no point did he push me to go for it. He took the time to explain the different options and patiently answered all the questions that both my husband and I had. Only after the hospital's Onco rehabilitation program was I ready. We went for the DIEP flap and we also experienced Dr Vertriest as a correct, extremely professional and at the same time very human person. Patient unfriendly, not empathetic, Very bad experience! After a long ordeal of chemo and radiation, the breast reconstruction should have been the icing on the cake, but it turned out to be a nightmare!!! 3 leaks occurred in my left expander!!! I can live with the fact that doctors make mistakes, but the fact that they do not want to recognize the error and do not want to find a solution for it makes it even worse. The only solution was to change plastic surgeon, which resulted in psychological suffering and additional surgery and loss of time. All very sad!!!!... (Show more)
