Dr Patrick Pownell
Bachelor of Science degree from Baylor University with cum laude honors in 1982. His medical degree was achieved at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center of Dallas in 1986. In medical school, his academic excellence was recognized with election to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society for finishing in the top five percent of his graduating class. Upon graduation, he completed a six-year residency in Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery at Parkland Hospital and the affiliated University of Texas Southwestern hospitals. Following this residency, he received his board certification in Otolaryngology in 1993. Dr. Pownell went on to complete a separate two-year residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery also at Southwestern Medical Center in 1994. Based on his achievements, he was recruited as an assistant professor within the Division of Plastic Surgery at the University of Southwestern Medical Center. He spent two years in this gratifying role as both clinical practitioner and instructional professor involved in the training of plastic surgery residents. In 1996, he received his board certification in Plastic Surgery and he subsequently moved into his own full-time private practice. In 1998, he was elected as a fellow into the prestigious American College of Surgeons. Two years later, he was elected as a member in the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the Rhinoplasty Society. Dr. Pownell served as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Plastic Surgery at Southwestern Medical Center until 2005
I would first like to thank Dr. Pownell and his office for being the only plastic surgeon out of dozens called in the DFW area to be willing to work with insurance. They are special and kind for that and should be celebrated. Dr. Pownell is a wonderful, experienced, and affable physician. He will surely make you feel at ease, and he will try his absolute best to give you the results you want. In the last three months I have been operated on by Dr. Pownell twice and his surgical skills are outstanding on difficult areas of the face in my case. The billing department of this doctor's office counts in one of the most horrible a patient will have to work with. Calls are not returned, emails are unanswered, there are billing mistakes, insurance claims are not filed. Be careful when doing business with this office.
Dr Pownell is an amazing surgeon! I had Mohs surgery on my face and was very worried about it. Dr Pownell put my mind at ease and was a maestro in the operating room. Top notch care, his whole surgical team is outstanding. If I could give him 10 stars I would! Office staff is stellar as well, if you want to experience A++++ top notch service and care, please see Dr Pownell. I had Mohs surgery on my nose in 2018 resulting with most of the tissue on one side being removed. I was aware this could be a possibility and was told there would be a plastic surgeon “standing by”. I arrived at the hospital from the Mohs surgeon’s office and indeed Dr. Pownell was standing by! I had never met nor heard of Dr Pownell and I am an extremely picky person concerning doctors and their competency. Dr. Pownell rebuilt my nose using tissue from my cheek, and although It took 4 procedures over 12 months to accomplish the desired results, 4 years later I have no scars on my face and most people can not tell my nose was rebuilt unless I show them. I highly recommend this caring, talented physician with an equally caring staff. I always tell people this was definitely a “God in charge day.”... (Show more)
Was, and have been, very impressed with the professionalism on all levels and the degree of personal care that their team and faculty provide to their patients. To keep it short and sweet, I would highly recommended even just a consultation. They really do care.
Dr. Pownell is the best surgeon. Have had multiple surgeries and ecstatic about results. Kind, perfectionist, and caring. Best results I have ever seen! Highly recommend him. His staff is also fantastic.
Dr Pownell is the VERY BEST surgeon but also is a fine person. He is very knowledgeable in his work, takes time with you as if you are his only patient. The procedure on my neck turned out great. You can depend on Dr Pownell to do awesome work!

I saw Dr. Pownell Nov 3rd for a breast implant removal consult. B/c I was born with a medical condition requiring it, it was to be filed under insurance. The scheduler said she was going to file it the day I came in for my visit. Time went by and I never heard from her. I called her weeks later to find out that she said it was denied. She never called to tell me. I asked her if she could appeal it and she said she could but not to count on it changing things. I sent her documentation that it had been approved previously and she said she’d send it in and call me back. Well she never called me back. I called the insurance company and they said she never sent anything in. It wasn’t in the system anywhere. I called the insurance and got the I insurance to approve it in less than 24 hours. But wouldn’t you know that the scheduler told me that they couldn’t get it scheduled in 3 days b/c they couldn’t do a Covid test in time and that the surgery clinics were closing by noon on New Years Eve. I called and spoke to the office Manger today and she said that Dr Pownell was performing surgery until 7:00pm New Years. I’ve been told lie after lie at this office. They are extremely unethical and honestly I don’t trust them. Besides that, his office staff is very very RUDE!!! On my first visit there, their were 2 ladies that left very upset b/c they had been waiting in the office for over a hour to be seen. So if you smell a rat, it’s usually a RAT!!! I am so so disgusted by the way this office has handled things and I certainly hope no one has to have the horrible experience I had. I only gave them 1 star b/c it won’t let you give non.... Dr. Pownell is definitely at the top of his game!! He has been so encouraging and positive about my outcome from my reconstruction after Mohs Surgery to remove a basil cell carcinoma on the side of my nose. The removal of the cancer pretty much took my whole left side of my nose, so Dr. Pownell had his work cut out for him! After two repair surgeries I finally have a left side of my nose back!! There are no words to express how thankful I am that I found Dr. Pownell after my skin cancer diagnosis on my face. Dr Pownell did the "reconstruction" after Mohs surgery and I literally "lucked" into finding him through the Mohs surgeons. When you first hear this diagnosis, it is extremely frightening. I had the surgery with Dr. Pownell immediately after lengthy and exhausting Mohs surgery (same day) in late December 2018. Now, only one month later, you can barely see the scar. The work he did is absolutely incredible - and also very importantly, his communication with the patient and family is superb and his office staff is the best. I've led large national pharma teams for 30+ years and it is rare to see this perfect combination of skill, professionalism, and warmth - all in one office. The staff is hugely important to any surgeon and the patience & kindness they have had with all my questions is so appreciated. Obviously, I highly recommend Dr Pownell! My experience with Dr Pownell was great. I did not know of him but was 'assigned' to see him after a removal of a Cancer on my scalp. It was pretty big (1-1/2" dia) so they said I would need a Plastic Surgeon to fix using a graft from my leg or chest. NOPE; the good Doctor managed to do with just my scalp skin with hair. I found him very hospitable and human when he laughed and told me that he arranged it in such a way that I have 'less of a bald spot' on the backside than I did before. Very impressive!!!
