I had a bilateral mastectomy with Dr Kernohan back in May, and he and his team couldn't have made the process go more smoothly despite this being a major, life-altering operation. Not only is Dr Kernohan himself wonderfully kind with an excellent bedside manner, but his entire staff were fantastic throughout the entire process and were very responsive to my concerns. Dr Kernohan and his team truly make the impossible possible. Since birth, I have had a neurofibroma positioned on my upper left lip. The lump was big, bulky and noticeable, and the skin over the top of it was uneven, discoloured and textured. While the lump on my face set me apart physically, the psychological impact of constantly explaining to people why I looked the way I did, and noticing their gaze studying the lump on my face while I spoke was enormous. After having other surgeons attempt to remove the lump twice before, I was nervous at the suggestion of a third attempt. Dr Kernohan however, never hesitated at the possibility that he would be able to give me the results I wanted most, which was to just look normal. He carefully explained how he would approach the problem I had with clarity, professionalism, kindness and empathy. His team were supportive, trustworthy and welcoming. There was nothing that was too big or too small for them to assist me with. My results are incredible. Not only has the neurofibroma been fully removed, but the once uneven and textured skin that covered it is also gone. My upper lift was reconstructed to appear flat and smooth, all while maintaining the integrity of my lip line and contours of my mouth, and without the need for a skin graft or excessive scarring. The physical transformation has made way for a psychological one too. For the first time in my life, I have been able to look at my face and actually see myself, rather than just a face with an ugly lump on it. As a female in her mid twenties, this is somewhat life changing. Placing myself in Dr. Kernohan's care is the best decision I could have made, because he and his team are simply the best there is....
