Very Satisfied with Eyelid and Mid-Face Surgeries I recently underwent lower eyelid reconstructions and mid-face surgery with Kenneth Steinsapir, M.D., a Beverly Hills, world-renowned oculoplastic surgeon. I cannot say enough positive things about the entire experience. I am extremely satisfied with the results thus far and am impressed with the precision, thoroughness, and passion of Dr. Steinsapir and his team in treating me. They have exceeded my expectations in every aspect of the consultation, surgery and after-care that I have received. I sought out Dr. Steinsapir after a botched canthoplasty surgery last year by a different surgeon that left me with eyelashes painfully growing into my corneas, numerous granulomas in my eyelids and redundant skin at the outer edges of my eyes which made me look decades older. I had a consultation in which Dr. Steinsapir analyzed the problems with my prior surgery and presented a solution for me to consider. He also identified another issue with my mid-face, which was that my facial implants (from another prior surgery) were poorly positioned in the sub-malar region, making me look older and tired. He recommended lower eyelid reconstruction to address the botched canthoplasty and replacing the old implants with new custom Gore-Tex implants. During surgery, he hand carved the implants to match each side of the face and orbital rim, so that the cheek sits in a more natural position and my eyes close and feel more comfortable. I am extremely happy that I took Dr. Steinsapir’s recommendations because the results, even at this early stage, are phenomenal. My eyes look and feel healthier and the implants in their new positions make me look years younger. It will take time – several months minimum – to see the full results of this surgery. (Anyone who thinks that they can assess the results of eyelid surgery immediately is not well-informed and does not understand the healing process– recovery takes time!) But an initial look at my eyes and face is already far superior to what I had before the surgery. Dr. Steinsapir’s team, and Faith Gomberg in particular, are caring, thorough and completely patient-centric. I have been treated by many physicians’ offices but never have I experienced the level of personal service, attention to detail and quality control that Faith exercises. She is a professional’s professional, who is not only supremely competent but also is a genuinely caring individual whose love for her work and the patients she serves is incomparable. I can only aspire to be as good as Faith is in my own work – she sets the bar that high. If you are contemplating oculoplastic surgery or mid-face surgery, I strongly recommend that you consult with Dr. Steinsapir. This is especially true if you have already had a surgery that was performed by someone who does not understand eyelid surgery, its anatomy, and did not achieve a positive outcome as you were promised, which is unfortunately most plastic surgeons. I do not think that there is anyone better than Dr. Steinsapir at oculoplastic and mid-face surgery nor has anyone assembled a team of medical and patient care professionals that are as good as Dr. Steinsapir’s team. I will be posting photos as my recovery progresses so you may see the results and realize that this review is based on results and not emotions or feelings. I was having chronic chemosis in both eyes after lower eyelid surgery. In my area I had been to my surgeon who performed the surgery and he treated me with steroid drops. The condition did not go away. I proceeded to go to well known eye surgeons at UAB and Vanderbilt. They both continued to treat me with steroid drops and added oral steroid medications as well. My condition only got better with treatment but never resolved. At this point I was beginning to feel hopeless and afraid for that matter because 7 years ago I had a CRVO stroke in my left eye and was left blind in that eye. As I searched and searched the web for a couple of months I found Dr. Steinsapir. I sent an email to his office with my concerns and added photos. Within 24 hrs I heard from an angel named Faith. She is Dr.Steinsapir’s medical advisor. She had me go into great detail about my concerns and counseled me for 2 hrs as she picked up on my distress and pulled me out of the emotional pit I was in. Who does that? Someone who truly cares. This place is very rare . I have never received this level of care from any Dr. or any medical advisor in my life. This was BEFORE I even made an appointment and had a consultation. I flew from Alabama to California… my consultation was almost 3 hrs long…. I was use to 10 minute visits all of my life. I appreciated the fact that he did not want to do an on line consultation. I have the sense enough to know you cannot do an exam without being in person and the Dr. actually touch you! Going to California was no issue to me. Fast forward to now… I had my consultation and Dr. Steinsapir diagnosed and came up with a solid treatment which does include surgery. He was the only one who took the consideration that I only have one functioning eye. He was more concerned about that than anything and was insistent that I go to a glaucoma specialist because my eye pressure was so high due to all the steroid drops I had been on for 6 months. I have never seen a Dr. so upset at how I was being treated. Faith and Dr. Steinsapir made time to call me multiple times even on weekends to make sure I follow through in getting into a good glaucoma specialist. He did not want to do my surgery until this was taken care of. Also he had me follow through with having my blood test to make sure there was no problem with my thyroid. For this can also cause chronic chemosis . Both concerns have been tested and clear…. Now we can go forward and have surgery which is scheduled for January of 2022. I will be reposting after my surgery is done and healed and let everyone know how that went. I think it is important that everyone who may be reading this knows of the level of care that I am receiving BEFORE I even have surgery. This office is a triple A++++ 5 star business. The level of concern and care is absolutely impeccable! I will post my final surgery results in 2022. Hope and common sense...the two things I was desperate for after a disastrous upper blepharoplasty in 2019 which left me with the inability to close my eyes properly and severe dry eye. Complicating matters, this procedure was performed when I was actively being treated for Graves' disease which my original plastic surgeon did not warn me against. Not doing eye surgery on patients with thyroid eye disease is just one of the tidbits I learned from Dr. Steinsapir and his office manager Faith. I was fortunate to have found them on RealSelf soon after I realized my original surgeon did not know what went wrong and would no longer be of help with my healing going forward. It's starts with a phone call. I hung up the first time I called, too embarrassed to tell anyone what I had allowed to be done to my eyes, but Faith called back immediately and asked how she could help. I spent the next hour recounting my story crying the entire time. Faith was calm and kind throughout the call. She has seen and heard it all through the years. These two have decades of experience and it shows. She asked me to send some photos and promptly responded that Dr. Steinsapir would be able to help. To what degree could not be assessed until I set up a consultation. The soonest they could get me in was 3 weeks later. This was the longest 3 weeks of my life. I was terrified that my eyes would never heal, never close, never be the same. Faith was there for me every step of the way. Any questions or concerns I had during this wait were just a phone call or email away. I was in a very dark place and she saved my life, full stop. My consult finally came on Sept. 11, 2019 and my husband and I were blown away with the care and detail taken with my eyes. Dr. Steinsapir and Faith spent three and half hours with us. Dr. Steinsapir explained what was going on with my lids and my thyroid. He did so calmly and in terms a layperson could understand. He also let us know that I would have to wait for revision in order for it to be done correctly. It gave me the impression that he is truly interested in doing what is right for me and not rushing me into surgery before I'm ready. Had I chosen him as my initial surgeon, I'm sure I wouldn't be in this situation to begin with. While awaiting revision, he gave me a plan of action which included suggesting psychiatric care. I think this is important to mention because I feel he is concerned about my entire well being, not just my eyes. I followed his medical advice and sure enough, the healing began. My mental state improved. My eye function improved (not 100% just yet), and I was on the road to recovery. As I live relatively close (1 hour flight), I elected to have another check up in December. Again he spent almost 3 hours with us and re-evaluated my eyes to see how the were healing and tailor-made a plan for function and aesthetics. There seems to be no "cookie cutter" procedures performed by Dr. Steinsapir. Everything is tailored to your needs and nothing is pushed on you. I found him to be very conservative in his approach to fixing my eyes. The long and short of it is that Dr. Steinsapir and Faith exude knowledge and common sense. That gives me the confidence that I will be in very caring and capable hands when it is time for my revision. Dr. Steinsapir made me like my reflection in the mirror again! After having had a misguided and poorly executed lower blepharoplasty with another plastic surgeon to treat dark, prominent tear troughs, the area under my eyes were left dark and hollow, giving me the appearance of severe exhaustion whether I was well rested or not. For almost two months I was distraught, angry, depressed and consumed by helplessness. I thought I had done irreparable damage to my face. I blamed myself for making the biggest mistake of my life and winced anytime I caught my reflection in the mirror. In a panic, I sought out highly rated oculoplastic specialists and surgeons within a 200 mile radius and began scheduling consultations to see the egregious dark, hollow rings under my eyes could be fixed. My first consultation led me to a very popular and acclaimed Beverly Hills surgeon who concluded that there was nothing wrong with my eyes and that there was nothing he could do for me. In the blink of an eye I was out several hundred dollars with absolutely no sense of relief nor a way forward. That incident was a crushing blow to an already dire situation. I sincerely thought I would be stuck looking the way I did for the rest of my life. I descended into a depression spiral. I became slightly more reclusive so as not to have to show my face. I felt like I was in a bad dream. A few weeks later, I decided to give it one last try to find someone who could possibly correct the damage done to me. Several Google searches led me to Dr. Steinsapir. His Yelp reviews mentioned corrective procedures to previously botched or poorly performed eye surgery. With only an ounce of hope I inquired about a consultation. Not ten minutes later I was on the phone with Faith of Dr. Steinsapir's office. She spent AN HOUR on the phone with me listening to my story, my struggle, and my despair. She was the first person throughout this entire ordeal who REALLY LISTENED to me and gave me hope when I had none. I can't thank her enough for talking me through that dark time. After our very reassuring discussion, I scheduled a consultation and then visited their office. Now I'm going to preface this by saying the consultation was on the pricier side, however, the doctor will spend a minimum of 3 hours with you, examining you and talking through your concerns whereas other surgeons will spend 15 to 20 minutes with you tops and politely turn you away. The result of the consultation was that the hollows beneath my eyes could be fixed and that I could essentially have my life and appearance back. I was relieved beyond belief. Fast forward a few months and I look like myself again. I can look in the mirror and smile, and best of all I don't think twice about attending social events. If you've come out of a blepharoplasty or other eye surgery and wish more than anything you could go back to your appearance before you made the decision to go under the knife, I urge you to at least consult with Dr. Steinsapir.... First I must stress that I never write reviews on anything whether my opinion/experience is good, indifferent or bad with any services. I Felt I need to take this time to sincerely firstly praise Dr Steinsapir, Faith and the medical team. BE WARNED! You can not find a surgeon closer to home or cheaper! There is absolutely no 'alternative' Dr.Steinsapir's! Especially UK/EU citizens you will fail miserably on trying to find a highly skilled oculoplastic surgeon on this side of the Atlantic ocean! Please do not be discouraged if you have to travel or you believe his fees are expensive, you are doing a massive injustice to yourself! Trust your initiative once you are graced to find Dr.Steinsapir stick and go to him especially if you have had previous unsatisfactory/botched eyelid surgery. He is unique in his craft, as he is the only surgeon successfully practising and executing the 'anchor blepharoplasty' technique. If you are suffering from (PUBS) Post Upper Blepharoplasty Syndrome ) then only Dr.Steinsapir can accomplish that type of revision surgery. He KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING and actually FIXES your problem from the root cause unlike the majority of these so-called laughable specialised surgeons out there. Faith (office manager & medical counsellor) is so welcoming and genuine she will make you feel cared about and always put your best interests first. She will tell you exactly what is needed from you in order to proceed with your procedure and tells you verbally and with fully clear written instructions so you know where you stand. Faith is such a tiny petite woman but has such a huge heart, I absolutely love her! I know you will too after meeting her. Thank you! To the nurse and anesthesiologist who were pleasant charms! The carer who Faith arranged for me called Janice was brilliant and so splendid! Thank you, Janice. From start to finish my time was amazing and first-class with the team. I came to see Dr Steinsapir at a very low time in my life. About a year and a half ago I went through a horrible experience with a previous plastic surgeon who performed both upper and lower blepharoplasties that left my eyes not only hollow and tired looking but also terribly dry and uncomfortable. Instead of looking refreshed and younger I looked old and sick. I was devastated and went from being a very outgoing person to a completely miserable introvert. My whole life came to a standstill. I went to several Drs who used filler to mitigate the hollowness which helped somewhat but in some ways only made matters worse. I still didn’t look like myself and I continued to hide out at home as much as possible not sure what to do. After much research I realized I needed surgical help and that’s when I made an appointment to see Dr Steinsapir. All I can say is that from the very first phone call I was so impressed with his office. Wow! His office manager Faith is unlike any other person I have ever met. She was so kind and reassuring when I called to schedule my appointment! After being harmed so badly by other Drs at first I had a hard time believing her kindness was for real but now I can attest 100% that it is. When I met Dr Steinsapir I was beyond impressed. He is kind, direct and extremely knowledgeable. After a thorough examination he was able to tell me exactly what was wrong with my eyes and how he planned to fix the problems that were caused by my prior surgery. I felt an emotion I hadn’t felt in a very long time - hope. I knew right then that he was “the guy”. The surgery was not inexpensive by any means but it was worth every penny. Every surgery the Dr. does is tailor made to the patient. Not only was my initial consult three hours long but once I decided to go ahead with the procedure he spent additional hours with me prior to my surgery, answering all my questions big and small and discussing with me in detail the results we wanted to achieve. I was amazed by his level of care and attention to detail. My surgeries went extremely well and I am beyond thrilled with the results!! I look like myself again but younger and fresher and prettier than I could have even imagined. Dr Steinsapir explained every detail of the surgery and what I could expect as an outcome and to be honest, I didn’t have very high expectations. I figured as long as there was some improvement both in appearance and comfort and I didn’t look worse I’d be good with that. So to have the incredible results that I do is truly unbelievable. In addition, the after care I received went far beyond anything I’ve ever experienced. The Dr. made himself accessible in case I had any concerns and Faith checked in with me regularly- encouraging me daily as I went through the early days of healing. I’m still early in the healing process (3-4 weeks) but I can honestly say I feel like Dr. Steinsapir gave me my life back. I’m able to see myself in the mirror without feeling a knot in my stomach and I’m able to look people in the eye once again knowing I look great. I feel and look beautiful! I can’t imagine where I’d be right now without this surgery and I will be forever grateful to both Dr Steinsapir and Faith. Dr. Steinsapir is in my opinion the only Doctor one should go to for the treatment of chalazions. He is nothing short of amazing! In January 2017, for the first time ever, I suffered from chalazions. 8 of them actually--4 in each eye, top and bottom. One grew so enormous I expected an alien to emerge! As you may imagine, the ordeal was traumatizing, painful and awful for one's esteem. I tried it all--steaming hot compresses two to four times a day, apple cider vinegar compresses (ouch!), vitamins, topical prescribed by local eye doctors, etc. Nothing worked. I consulted with three local ophthalmologists. All wanted to cut into my eyelids and assured me it's not a big deal to have an outpatient surgery with only local anesthesia. None listened to my concerns,much less answered my questions. Most were dismissive and condescending. As an attorney by profession, I had done my research and was all too weary of the potential repercussions of surgery especially on the sensitive eyelids. Then, one lucky day, I stumbled upon Dr. Steinsapir responding to a patient's inquiry online asking about treatment for chalazions. He advocated for kenalog injections and had the successful outcomes and research to support it. Off to Beverly Hills I went, three months in to my eye saga, feeling scared and hopeful. Dr. Steinsapir and his wonderful staff put me right at ease. Kind, patient, compassionate, confident and talented, Dr. Steinsapir expertly injected my eyes approximately 16 times. The numbing he gave me beforehand worked so well I barely felt a thing. Seriously. There was only slight tinges of pain & swelling as my eyes regained feeling. But within 48 hours, I was just fine. Fast forward a mere few weeks and nearly all of the chalazions were gone. I had one more round for the ginormous chalazion and it resolved 100% by the 6th to 7th week. I took three months of an antibiotic to help maintain a reduced inflammation. It felt like a miracle! But it really was all the talent of Dr. Steinsapir. I enthusiastically recommend him. (And if I lived in the LA area, I would absolutely become his patient for other services; I have seen his amazing skill with Botox that looks so natural yet refreshed nobody would ever guess it had been done).
