Question and Answer

Dr Brent Johnson
He grew up on a farm in southern Ontario. He credits his interpersonal skills and compassion for patient welfare to the values he acquired from his parents and neighbours within this rural community. He completed his specialty training in oral and maxillofacial surgery in 1988 and has been in private practice in Ottawa since that time. He continues to update his skills and knowledge through regular attendance at specialty specific scientific meetings and courses. Dr. Johnson is a member of the medical staff of the Ottawa Hospital and operates at the Civic, General and Riverside hospital sites as well as Carleton Place and District Memorial Hospital. He is licensed by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario with a General and Specialty certificate for oral and maxillofacial surgery. He is a member of the Canadian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Ontario Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Canadian Dental Society of Anesthesiology, Canadian Dental Association, Ontario Dental Association, and Ottawa Dental Society.
I highly recommend him went to 10 Green Street in Nepean had a complicated wisdom tooth extraction today is day after l have no pain, not even taking pain medication. He is good l was sedated did not feel a thing.he is also very friendly so are his staff l highly recommended him....
Dr Johnson removed my bottom wisdom teeth a few days ago and it was a positive experience. There was a delay on the start of my surgery because my dentist had neglected to send my X-rays, but after some time waiting Dr Johnson offered to redo my X-rays for free. His staff was knowledgeable and polite, and the doctor himself was very calm and explained the procedure clearly before I was put under GA. Post-surgery, his staff was patient and made sure my husband had all of the information and written prescriptions he needed before sending us home. Very glad I was referred to this surgeon, would highly recommend to anyone who struggles with dental anxiety.... (Show more)
Dr Johnson is a very proficient dental surgeon as is the dental team. Very happy with the service and care.
Unprofessional dentist and incompetent staff. I went in for a wisdom tooth removal, first of all, when got referred, I was told that I would pay extra for things they already had received from my dental clinic. I get there, pay $1380 for the wisdom tooth removal, the anesthesiologist, asked me my weight, which, being European, I gave in kilos, she was not able to find my vein, and when she put it on my hand, but she didn’t think about putting my hand in a supported area (like an handle). While on surgery, I started to move and be uncomfortable (which doesn’t make sense if I had a full anesthesia) and even though they cut me open, they were not able to remove the tooth. I had 2 stitches and I was uncomfortable for over a week, and they did reschedule to come in. Today receive a call from them to cancel so called appointment, and because of the experience I’m clearly getting did not want to deal with them anymore and only wanted my money back and they would not give it to me. The doctor was rude, said that “my size” was not easy to handle and the staff clearly is unprepared and unprofessional. I would not recommend this place to get your surgery done.... (Show more)
I Should have read all the reviews first. I would have stayed clear of this guy. I am sure he has some people with good experiences, but be sure to read all reviews before making your choice. One of the worst experiences I have had with scheduling an appointment with a Doctor since the early 2000's. Constantly reschedules, even last minute, hard to reach someone on the phone and then overbooks and expects patients to wait "over" an hour past their scheduled appointments. I canceled my second rescheduled by them appointment on the spot when I was told it would be at least 1 hour, possible 1.5 hours past my scheduled time. (I drove from out of town too.)... (Show more)
Had a wisdom tooth removed. Excellent work. I did as directed and everything went smoothly.
I went to see Dr Johnson about a broken tooth below the gum line. He was referred by my dentist. I found him to be personable and informed me of the various options and time needed to remove the broken tooth. Everything was done efficiently and within an hour of stepping into the office. I was very pleased with the service and the staff.... (Show more)
Had an impacted tooth removed. Dr.Johnson and his staff were great! Highly recommended! Thanks again!
Daughter had wisdom teeth out today, wonderful experience was very well taken care of , Thank you Dr Johmson and staff
Greeted positively by the front desk. Welcomed by staff and felt safe and calm with the nurses who were there the whole time. Dr. Dexter Johnston did an incredible job at keeping me calm, which helped tremendously. Would recommend coming here! (I got 4 wisdom teeth removed)
I had a cracked molar that was beyond help for a root canal. Parliament Hill Dental referred me to Dr. Johnson at the Smythe CIinic. I was concerned about the sedation and requested to have local. Dr. Johnson was very clear and professional and though he recommended the anesthesic, to make it most comfortable if complications arose, he agreed to proceed with local. I felt heard and trusted his approach. The procedure went extremely well. I have not needed the pain medication prescribed and three days after I am feeling much better. A follow up call to see how I was doing was also appreciated. It is not easy to lose a tooth, but Dr. Johnson an his staff treated me extremely well and I am very thankful. Highly recommend.... As far as my family and I are concerned Dr. Dexter Johnson is the crème de la crème of oral surgeons in The Bahamas. Dr. Johnson had the opportunity to remove all four of my daughter's wisdom teeth- a couple of which were impacted (and one in particular in a difficult position). He did a SPLENDID JOB both times and I love how he always made himself accessible for any questions/concerns and he is a humble man. I Highly recommend this doctor.... (Show more)
Dr Johnson has extremely poor bedside manner. He is curt, monotone and rude. My appointment was at 10:30 and wasn’t seen until past noon, left me alone in a room to panic with nobody checking on me. I am a type 1 diabetic and hadn’t eaten in over 15 hours. I called the on-call number twice and both times he treated me like I was bothering him when I had a negative reaction to the antibiotics prescribed. I was given a short after care speech before surgery, that half I didn’t understand because it was a quick mumbling rehearsed blurb. And today when I unfortunately had to go back due to pain he was rude and curt. Receptionists are clueless and lack empathy. Would not recommend this place to my worst enemy.... (Show more)
The dentist is nice enough - he should review his staff and re-arrange booking times. Wait time 2+ hours even with an appointment for surgery. One of the receptionist seems untrained with customer service. Calling to inquire about an infection after my surgery seemed like a disturbance for her and she hangs up before you are done explaining your concerns. Would not recommend to my friends and family …... (Show more)
I like that he did not ask for a consultation appointment first and that he offered to do general Anesthesia. I was not comfortable getting needles in my mouth while awake and other dentist just flat out refused to give me GA. I also like the direct billing even though I didn't remember my insurance information, the receptionist said she knew my place of work offers what insurance and she will take care of it. I also like that he is soft spoken, and gave clear instructions. I had read some reviews and was scared going in but it worked out for me just fine. I did find myself to be in a lot of pain after but I had four teeth removed so I can't blame the surgeon for that. Also, pain killers were making me nauteaous. Again not his fault!!... (Show more)
wouldn't go anywhere else
Save your money and your teeth by not going to this doctor. 1. No contact tracing. Pretty sure I got COVID from here… 2. Always late for appointments (1-2hrs min.) 3. Bad record keeping of operations/tasks performed Asked to come in every week to check on stitching to see if he can remove it. On the third time going back he said the stitches are dissolvable and don’t actually need removing. Not sure if this doctor doesn’t keep track of his patients properly or he doesn’t know what he’s doing. Do not recommend and save yourself on a better quality dental experience.... (Show more)
Receptionist is beyond rude and would not listen to my concerns. She then seemed annoyed and angry at even the idea that maybe Dr. Johnson had incorrectly stitched my wisdom teeth extraction years ago. I don't know why she acts personally offended, she's there to answer the phones and book appointments not to dish out medical advice like telling me "it's not possible". Wow pretty impressive that you were able to examine me over the phone while also having no medical experience. She then rudely said "fine then you'll have to pay $240 for a consultation" as if she's happy to be telling me this information. Then when I told her I'd have to think about it she said "great!" and hung up on me. I've read Dr. Johnsons reviews on ratemymd and they all talk about how rude and dismissive she is. She needs to be re-trained or let go.... (Show more)
BRING A BOOK AND LUNCH*** I was called on the same day of my appointment and they requested I move my appointment to earlier in the day. After agreeing on a time I showed up 10min early and proceeded to sit for 2 Hours!! After moving my appointment to 3 hours earlier!!! Finally, I walked up to the reception and asked what my timeline was. I was told I still had a half-hour to wait, so I left. The entire time im talking to reception, the DR was watching from the corner of the room not adding anything, just standing there like a awkward child at a school dance. Health care right!...
