They just.... don't answer the phone... ever. Used to love it here, but its been awful for over a year

Tony Lyons - a year ago - Review Provided by Google Maps

Here goes. I've been a client since 1999 and I've had no issues whatsoever until the recent take over of the business in 2022. Since the practice was sold, I'm no longer able to get "paid" NHS treatment due to "lack of dentists" and my 10 year old daughter can no longer get free NHS dental appointments, full stop. Apparently, the practice is awaiting visas for Indian trained dentists. The practice is now owned by Alliance Dental Care Ltd with at least one director based in India. I did have a tooth with an old filling treated, after it fell apart in late 2023, and to be fair, I was given an appointment reasonably quickly. However, the dentist (can't remember which one) just put in some white filling to cover it up and it looked a mess at the time. I did ask what the point was, as I was after a crown and not some shoddy patch up job. Today it all fell out ! Anyway, I've had to sign up to a private dentist but feel it's such a shame that a once decent dental practice (that accepted NHS clients both paid and free) has fallen by the way side. IMHO avoid at all costs. Suspect no further NHS treatments available here. If you are private client, then avoid at all costs x 10. In my experience, the dental treatment is sub standard. Make of that what you will !... (Show more)

Dear Mr Basterfield, Thank you for taking your precious time for feedback. Please read the link attached: https://www.newstatesman.com/spotlight/healthcare/2023/03/nhs-dentistry-eroded-british-dental-association-workforce-shortage Firstly, we can assure you that none of the directors of Alliance are based in India. They both are GDC registered UK based practicing dentist. Secondly, all clinical staff at the practice is UK registered with UK based governing bodies. There is an acute shortage of NHS dentists in the country due to reasons out of our control with increasing number of dentists opting out of NHS dentistry. We, however are trying very hard to provide as much NHS dentistry as possible with our dentists working very hard to treat as many patients as possible on the NHS. We sincerely wish we could do better but are sorry we have not been able to help you. Hopefully, once we have had new dentists join, the situation will improve. Thank you

I agree with the last two reviews.. and especially the last. I’ve had so many appointments cancelled by them, and offered appointments 6mths later. No consideration whatsoever. I feel sorry for the reception staff as they have to deliver shoddy news and get the tail end of irritations. I have appointments booked.. but have <$_1>. I’ll be surprised if I actually get them.... Dear V, We are really sorry for having to do this as due to reasons out of our control, there is an acute national shortage of dentists especially in the NHS. We are trying really hard to recruit dentists for NHS work. Any reforms forNHS dentistry would hopefully help! Let’s hope this situation improves soon as we would really like to hep all our patients !

The most blunt, un-sympathetic reception staff I have ever encountered in a dental practice. Manners and empathy cost nothing but this is really beyond the team there. Cancelled my appointment several times without an apology, also cancelled my daughter's on more that one occasion. Oh, and if you are unlucky enough to go, you will need to sit in the waiting room for at least half an hour as they never run on time. Even today (after 3 cancelled appointments) my daughter has had to wait 30 mins ini the waiting room as they are running behind again!... (Show more)

I've used this practice for a few years, and on the whole it's been ok up until recently. The dentist I had there until recently was fine, and I had no problem. Initially, the hygienist was indeed rude, as has been mentioned elsewhere, so I made no more appointments with her and I don't know if she still works there. I've now been allocated a new dentist, and I've had four out of my last six appointments cancelled at short notice! For example today at 10am for this afternoon's 2:30pm appointment. They have the absolute bare-faced cheek to put up posters etc. threatening patients with fines if they cancel appointments. I didn't complain at all until today, when I mentioned the situation and basically got a "not my fault, it's the dentist's" from the receptionist.... (Show more)

Absolutely useless. Non existing customer service. They say they will send a reminder for next check up - nope. Then you get an appointment (4months to wait) and after 2 months you receive automatic appointment cancellation with no explanation/rebooking. Avoid at all costs!!!!

Unfriendly and smug like most dentist seem to be. Thank you for your reply I please don't doubt me, this is a review of Brighton Dental Centre. I was calling to become a new patient. That's why you do not have a record. Your service starts at the front door. So I will not be a patient or customer of Brighton Dental Centre.

Hi - we are sorry you had a bad experience, but it wasn't here - there is no-one with your name registered at this practice. You may have attended Brighton Dental Care or Clinic. Please be so kind as to remove this review.

Real rude person on th phone when you cancelled my appointment..that was an emergency...and then told me I couldn't be seen until April. Cheers won't be bothering with you guys anymore

Shocking service, sadly this isn't the same practice as it was. I made an appointment, in August, for a tooth extraction in December (nearest date available) they called the day before to cancel & the nearest appointment available was next July! That will be nearly a year, the receptionist didn't seem to realise or care. It used to be a lovely small caring practice, now don't trust anything about it. Have been here since my children were small, over 20 years, but now can never get through to anyone, the only appointments they have available are with the hygienist, it's not good enough, am looking elsewhere... but probably the same everywhere... Dear Lizzy, We are really sorry in not being able to serve you due to acute national shortage of NHS dentists. We are really trying to improve the situation by trying to recruit new dentists. Thank you

Our dentist Joe is lovely and puts you at ease. Our young daughter has a fear of the dentist for some reason and he's been incredibly patient with her at check ups. I'd definitely recommend especially for kids, they get a sticker afterwards too.

Dear Noora, Thank you so much for your support and kind words! Joe will be very happy to receive your words of encouragement! Kind regards

This place is a shambles. Had my appointment cancelled by text without explanation and can’t get through to anyone on the phone. This is despite confirming it with them in person recently which I did because I’d heard about them cancelling appointments regularly. Wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt but they are just as bad as people are saying.

Ignore these reviews, I've been going here along with my mother for over 20 years. We've seen Dr.M, he is fantastic at what he does and is incredibly understanding! I used to have phobia of going to the dentist, now not anymore

Finn - a year ago - Review Provided by Google Maps

Cancelled my appointments, with no explanation. Since found out the dentist has left (Daniel). No way of getting appoint, unless and emergency. Put on a waiting list, which is at least 12 weeks! Shocking, no communication what so ever.

Appointments cancelled 4 times in a row, finally went for treatment and left in waiting room so long anaesthetic wore off, had to be injected again, spent pretty much whole day there.

My recent experience at BDC was very smooth. Friendly reception staff and professional dentist and dental nurse.

jill Harbord - 2 years ago - Review Provided by Google Maps

Have been registered with this practice for over 20 years but it’s seriously gone down hill. Left with incomplete dental treatment due to cancelled appointments and poor dentistry. Moving to another dental practice as I’ve no longer trust or confidence in this practice. Wish I’d left sooner!

S M - 2 years ago - Review Provided by Google Maps

Been with this practice for 20 years but now it's truly dreadful. Had to wait months and months for my daughter's appointment for it to be cancelled by text with no explanation. Trying to book in again and the phone just goes unanswered. After reading other reviews I guess I will have to ditch the NHS and go elsewhere and pay!!!!!! Oh, and the hygienist Caroline is the stroppiest, rudest person you will ever meet. Why are you doing this job if you are so miserable?... (Show more)

I have also waited a while for an appointment with my son since Covid and Daniel left, but have to say it was probably the best appointment we’ve ever had. Reception staff were helpful and the new dentist Jose and his dental assistant were great and really thorough. My wisdom tooth had become infected and rather than make me wait, took it out on the spot to protect my other teeth. I was worried but Jose explained everything and gently removed it. He also took time to explain to my son about the possibility of braces and what he needed to do to make this happen in terms of cleaning and keeping his teeth healthy. A very helpful thorough appt and booked in with the hygienist soon. Think the whole place has improved, we loved Jose and the new team. Think they are working hard to get as many people seen as possible.... (Show more)

Terrible Service. Avoid at all costs. Been with them for nearly 20 years all my children have been coming here all their lives. But now it's gone to hell. Can't get an appointment. My last one was cancelled by them but they didn't tell me so I turned up (taking time off work) to find it was cancelled. Same happened with the kids. Now I can get an appointment (presumably because I pay) but they can't. Can't quit as I am NHS. So am stuck with this lot. And yet still my kids haven't seen a dentist in years... (Show more)

3 months ago went for a check up. But when arrived said my appointment was cancelled, never told me. Didnt get a email or text. They said my dentist had gone back to Sweden and were waiting for a new dentist. Would let me know but haven't heard anything. No check up for 2 years
