He leads the Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Services at Salford Royal University teaching Hospital, which is the only NHS hospital in Greater Manchester and beyond to provide this highly specialized service. He has been a consultant surgeon for more than 15 years with significant Bariatric experience and extensive surgical expertise. He has undertaken over 5,000 laparoscopic surgical procedures and over 1,000 Bariatric surgical procedures, with excellent outcomes. Patient satisfaction is very well-evidenced by the consistently outstanding feedback, testimonals and letters of appreciation by his patients. Following the completion of his higher surgical training he visited leading centers in America, Australia and Japan as a Surgical Fellow. This enabled him to enhance his skills in managing complex upper GI and Bariatric patients. He has presented extensively, both nationally and internationally and published a number of significant papers in peer-reviewed journals. Currently he is an Honorary Professor of Surgery from Manchester Metropolitan University for his extensive research and commitments to education and teaching. In addition to treating patients with obesity and its associated diseases, he has a keen interest in increasing awareness on the impact of obesity on health for both medical and allied professionals, as well to the general public. With this in mind he has spearheaded the creation of OASIS-GB, a voluntary organization to increase awareness and support for obesity. As Chairman of OASIS-GB he is working with colleagues, academics, council health improvement teams and voluntary organisations to provide better care and support for people with obesity.
